Casey Lubahn begins his third season as the head coach of the Miami golf team. Already through his teaching and tireless recruiting efforts, the improvement in the RedHawks is visible.

Through the past two seasons, Lubahn has led the RedHawks to victories in two tournaments, the 2008 Georgetown Intercollegiate and the 2009 Bearcat Invitational, as well contention in numerous others. Miami holds an overall record of 188-139-3 under Lubahn, and in 2010 earned its first NCAA regional at-large individual selection since 2001 in Nathan Sutherland.

Under Lubahn's tutelage, Sutherland earned a spot on the All-MAC First team in 2010. He was also named Miami's male athlete of the year. In 2009, Lubahn saw Ben Wood and Ben Bastel earn Scholar All-America honors, while Bastel was also named the Mid-American Conference's Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsman of the Year winner.

"Casey brings a wealth of energy, experience and integrity to our program, and he has been exposed to some of the best mentors in the sport of golf," said Athletic Director Brad Bates. "His inherent attributes have immediately had an impact on our program. His vision for our program is lofty, aggressive and noteworthy. We are very fortunate to have an individual who is nationally respected come to our great university, and we look forward to Casey's leadership in continuing to guide the future of Miami golf."

"I am so honored to be the head coach at this prestigious institution and I believe we have all the tools in place to produce a championship program," said Lubahn. "We are going to continue to pursue every opportunity for success with the character, integrity and courage worthy of this athletic department and university."

Lubahn joined the Michigan State men's golf program following his graduation from MSU in 2004, spending three years as an assistant coach and helping the Spartans to Big Ten titles in 2005, 2007 and 2008. Lubahn served as an assistant coach from June 2004 through August of 2006, before spending one year with Morgan Bradley, L.L.C. He returned to the Spartan program in June 2007 and served in his post until his hiring at Miami. He was involved with all facets of the MSU program, including serving as interim head coach from June to August in 2007.

In 2007-08, Lubahn was a finalist for the GCAA Jan Strickland Award, which is awarded to the NCAA Division I Assistant Coach of the Year.

"Casey has had success as a player, coach and teaching professional," said Iowa head men's golf coach and former Michigan State head golf coach Mark Hankins. "He will be a tireless recruiter and has the ability to develop kids once they arrive on campus. I'm sure he will be missed at Michigan State, and Miami will soon be a power in the MAC and Midwest Region."

A three-year letterwinner in the Michigan State golf program, Lubahn finished his career with the fifth-lowest career stroke average in program history. Lubahn, who is a native of Sand Lake, Mich., earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State in 2004.

Prior to joining Miami, Lubahn took part in a reality series called the "Big Break". The series "Big Break X: Michigan" featured Lubahn and his wife, Rachel taking part in a number of golf related challenges. It aired from October to December of 2008.
