Miami vs. Ball State

With the loss, Miami drops to 3-3 overall, 2-2 in the MAC and 1-1 in the MAC East.
The defeat hands Miami its first back-to-back setbacks since 1997 and its first
successive losing string versus MAC teams since 1994.
Ball State halts the nation's longest losing string at 21 games with the victory. The streak
dated to Oct. 3, 1998. The Cardinals also stopped a 16-game road losing streak and a
14-game skid versus MAC foes.
Prior to today's defeat, Miami had won 14 of its last 15 home games vs. Mid-American
Conference foes. The only previous loss was to Marshall on Oct. 3, 1999.
Early in the second quarter, Miami quarterback Mike Bath became the RedHawks'
all-time leader in touchdown passes, tossing the 45th of his career to Sly Johnson. He
also moved into an eighth-place tie on the MAC's all-time list, sharing the spot with
Western Michigan's Jay McDanagh (1993-95).
Miami's Ty Buxton caught a career-high nine passes for 130 yards.
Ball State's Anthony Jones, who rushed for 187 yards on 46 carries, became the
Cardinals' first 100-yard rusher since Nov. 21, 1998 (vs. Central Michigan).
Miami's rushing game, which rang up a season-high 256 yards last week at Akron, was
held to 65 yards on 24 carries (2.7 ypc).
The loss dropped Miami's homecoming record to 55-25-4 all-time and 2-5-1 since
1993. The home loss was just the third for Miami against Ball State in 13 meetings in
Oxford (9-3-1).
