CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Four homegrown Miami University football players -- Clayton Mullins (Fairborn), Joey Hudson (Piqua), Jake Richardson (Oxford) and Nate Parseghian (Sylvania) -- have been named to the Mid-American Conference's 2008 first-team football squad.
In addition, Joe Coniglio (Rockford, IL), Robbie Wilson (Cincinnati) and Eugene Harris (Atlanta, GA) have been accorded third-team all-MAC honors. It's the most first-team Miami selections since 2005 when five RedHawks were honored.
Mullins, a senior linebacker, earned first-team laurels for the second consecutive year. He is the first Miamian to achieve that feat since defensive end Marcus Johnson in 2004 and 2005. Mullins recorded 105 tackles in 2008, the eighth-best total among MAC players. He ended his career with a total of 343 stops.
Hudson won first-team honors for the first time in his career after earning second-team kudos each of the last two seasons. The senior linebacker collected a career-high 109 tackles this past season and ranked fifth among all MAC players. He also recorded eight tackles for loss and one interception. Hudson ended his RedHawk career with 317 tackles.
Richardson also became a first-team all-MAC selection for the first time. He led the league in punting with a 45.4 average and ranked fourth nationally. The senior's average is Miami's all-time single-season record and his career average of 42.8 also ranks No. 1 in the school's record book.
