Miami vs. Bowling Green
Oct. 14, 2000
BOWLING GREEN HEAD COACH GARY BLACKNEY
OPENING STATEMENT:
"Miami made the plays they needed to make in the second half. I thought Mike Bath
showed a lot of courage. He was obviously not playing at full strength. He had a lot of difficulty in the first half and
was able to come back real strong in the second half. I really think that was the difference in the game. The other
thing was field position."
ON MIAMI GOING WITH A HURRY-UP OFFENSE:
"I don't think it bothered us. Our defense was worn out. They
were on the field too long."
MIAMI HEAD COACH TERRY HOEPPNER
OPENING STATEMENT:
"Obviously, this was a great team win for Miami against an inspired Bowling Green team. I
told the other coaches that those guys are ready to play. It is kind of a farewell tour for Coach Blackney. I'm happy
we were able to respond. It looked like nothing was going our way in the first half. We hung in there. I'm really proud
of the defense for hanging in there. The offense finally got on track. We went to an attack offense in the second half.
That changed the momentum. But not only our offense, but our special teams came through. Our guys are prepared
for games like this. I got up and told these guys not to forget those six o'clock days in the weight room."
ON MIAMI QUARTERBACK MIKE BATH:
"I give credit where credit is due. I talked to Mike at halftime and he said
he really felt comfortable in the attack offense."
ON MIAMI PUNTER KENT MCCULLOUGH:
"He dropped that first snap on the field goal attempt and then came
back and had an excellent game punting and with his kickoffs. He had an average of 47.1 and a long of 62 yards. He
went back and made the holds the rest of the time."
ON MIAMI RUNNING BACK STEVE LITTLE:
"I told Coach Dalrymple after the game that all his strength and
conditioning pays off. The attack offense takes a physical toll on a player. Steve did and good job and the offensive
line just kept pounding."
MIAMI QUARTERBACK MIKE BATH
ON HIS FIRST TOUCHDOWN RUN:
"Coach thought it was a good time to run the quarterback draw. It was a great
call. Andy Dooley gave me a great block."
ON GOING TO HURRY-UP OFFENSE:
"Last week I didn't play as well as I could. I started off okay today. We hit a
groove in the no huddle offense. Just get the play and go."
MIAMI RUNNING BACK STEVE LITTLE
ON HIS PERFORMANCE:
"Coach said just go out there and have fun. He said to go out the second half and do
what we've been practicing all year, coming off the ball and running hard. And that is what we did."
