OXFORD, Ohio--If you've been on the Miami University campus this week, that buzz that you heard was one emitted from the student body who's getting fired up for this Saturday's "Rumble at the River" at Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium (PBS).
The lines at the Athletic Ticket Office at Millett Hall have been long and lively, signaling that the atmosphere at PBS for the Miami-Kentucky football game will be electric.
Here's what some of the students told MURedHawks.com about their enthusiasm for Saturday's 12 noon kickoff.
"With this being the Bicentennial year for Miami University, it is time to paint our school, and the City of Oxford Red. It's becoming, that on such an important year in Miami's history, the athletic department is taking a step in a direction that will hopefully change the face of school spirit forever. What's exciting about this game is that it is the first time where Miami students can unite off campus under a common cause; where they can break down the barriers they have formed in their student or greek organizations, and just be Red Hawks. I hope to see more events like this in the future as this is an incredible start to an incredible year. Go Hawks!" --Matt Ciccone, Junior, Naperville, Illinois
"Rumble at the River! If saying that doesn't get you excited, then I don't know what will. When this phrase or Paul Brown Stadium is mentioned at any meeting, student conversation or lunch table chat you can see faces light up with anticipation not only for a great football game, but also for the amazing experience at a professional stadium where we will bleed red and white in our first chance to support the football team. From the way students are talking, I'm not sure anyone will be left on campus!" --Stephanie Bibbo, Graduate Advisor of RedHawk Traditions LLC
"I am so excited for the game on Saturday! We are going in a group of 50 people. It is so great to see Miami come together again, especially to support our athletic teams. I know we have so many traditions already, but this football game will be another one to add to the list." --Una Hrnjak, Secretary for Diversity Affairs, Associated Student Government
"This game is definitely the start something new at Miami. A new coach, a new place, a new tradition. The student body has been waiting for success and I think it will happen here." --Megan McCarty, Red Alert President
"Chi Omega is really excited for the football against UK at Paul Brown Stadium. We have around 36 girls attending the game and we think it is going to be a great time!" --Andrea Manis, Chi Omega Sorority
Students can continue to purchase $10 tickets right up until the noon kickoff on September 5th, but there's no guarantee that they will be included in Miami's student section. Only fulltime Miami University students may purchase or use a student ticket. Student ID must be shown to order, pick up a ticket and to enter Paul Brown Stadium.
