Notes from Camp Oxford -- Day 17
COUNTDOWN TO VANDERBILT: The countdown continues and now only nine days remain until Miami's season opener at home vs. Vanderbilt on August 28.
TUESDAY'S PRACTICES: The RedHawks had a full-pads practice in the morning, then ran a series of "gassers" to conclude the workout. Quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh was practicing this morning, bouncing back nicely from an ankle injury he suffered during Saturday's scrimmage. Other than minor bumps and bruises, Miami continues to remain relatively healthy.
THIS WEEK'S PRACTICES: Miami will practice at 3 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 20) ... the RedHawks will practice under the lights on Thursday night (Aug. 21). ... The team will not practice on Friday (Aug. 22). ... Coach Shane Montgomery will conduct his first weekly press conference of the season this coming Friday (Aug. 22) at 11 a.m. The media is invited to attend the session that is held in Coach Montgomery's office.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES: Miami's offensive two-deep has been established, and it's a group that includes letter winners at 10 of the 11 starting positions. The only starter who has not had game experience is highly touted redshirt freshman right guard Brandon Brooks. The balance of the offensive starters includes four seniors (left tackle Steve Sutter, left guard Dave DiFranco, center Josh Satterthwait and tight end Tom Crabtree), two juniors (wide receiver Dustin Woods and quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh) and four sophomores (right tackle Bob Gulley, tailback Thomas Merriweather, and wide receiver Chris Givens and Eugene Harris). True freshman Andrew Phelan at left tackle is the only rookie to break onto either the offensive or defensive two-deep. Three redshirt freshmen are backups (left guard Kevin Koncelik, right tackle Ken Staudinger and quarterback Clay Belton), as are five sophomores (wide receiver Armand Robinson, right guard Nate Williams, center Bob Gulley and wide receivers Donovan Potter and Jamal Rogers), one junior (running back Andre Bratton) and one senior (tight end Jake O'Connell). Cumulatively, players on the offensive two-deep have earned a total of 28 letters.
