June 15, 2009

OXFORD, Ohio - The Bicentennial edition of Alumni Weekend at Miami University takes place at the Oxford campus next Thursday through Sunday (June 18-21) and several RedHawk athletic staff members and student-athletes will participate in the various festivities.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, new head football coach MICHAEL HAYWOOD, Director of Athletic BRAD BATES, coaches from Miami's 2008-09 championship teams and student-athletes from various sports will greet varsity alumni and friends of athletics at the Walter L. Gross, Jr. Family Student-Athlete Development Center. Alumni Weekend attendees can register for the event now.

The event will conclude by 3:15 p.m. so that those who wish to attend the Miami Merger event can do so.

Haywood will speak to alumni at The Hub on campus at 5 p.m. on Saturday (June 20), following the Miami Mergers ceremony.

MIAMI FEST

Faculty and staff are invited to MiamiFest--the traditional highlight of Alumni Weekend--to enjoy plenty of food and fun at a discounted price of $25. Children ages 12 and under eat free. MiamiFest begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20, in Miami's central quad.

This family-friendly outing includes a barbecue dinner complete with UDF ice cream, musical entertainment and a KidZone with inflatable games and other activities for children.

Join the celebration by signing up for MiamiFest at www.MiamiAlum.org/MiamiFestRegistration.

To learn more about other Alumni Weekend events, including Alumni College, Kids in College, the Miami Merger Moment, the Parade of Classes, and Alumni Symposium (June 21-22), visit www.MiamiAlum.org/AlumniWeekend.

MIAMI MERGER MOMENT

Come together and celebrate the Bicentennial year with other Miami couples for a Miami Merger Moment at Alumni Weekend 2009! Join hundreds of couples, including men's basketball coach Charlie Coles and his wife, Dee, on Saturday, June 20 at 4:15 pm at the Upham Arch.

Not a Merger? "Acquisitions" (a Miamian married to a non-Miamian) are welcome to join our effort to break this world record. This free event is something you won't want to miss. Not many can say they are part of a world record! There will be giveaways, merger t-shirt sales, and even the conclusion of an actual wedding ceremony between two 2009 grads. So join us at the Upham Arch at 4:15 on Saturday (registration will begin at 3:30) for a fun and light-hearted event that will surely go down in the Miami history books (as well as the Guinness book).

Participants will need to provide a copy of their marriage certificate so it can be presented to Guinness to make the record official.

SPECIAL BOOK SIGNING BY BOB KURZ ON SATURDAY, JUNE 20

Please join celebrated author and Miami graduate Bob Kurz for a special book signing session during Alumni Weekend at the Welcome Center (Goggin Ice Center) on Saturday, June 20. Mr. Kurz will be available from 10-11:30 a.m. to autograph copies of "Cradle of Coaches", not only the book he authored, but, the phrase he coined 50 years ago this fall.

Copies may be dropped off for Mr. Kurz to sign throughout the weekend and picked up during the signing time on the 20th. Books may also be brought in or can be purchased in the merchandise area at the Welcome Center in Goggin for $29.95.

Don't miss out on this special opportunity to meet Mr. Kurz and have your book signed by him.
