OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University football team has added a home-and-home series to its 2007 and 2008 non-conference schedules, picking up Vanderbilt University from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The 2007 game will be played Saturday, Oct. 27 at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., and the RedHawks will open up the 2008 season in Yager Stadium versus the Commodores on Aug. 28.
"We have added another tough opponent to an already outstanding non-conference schedule," head coach Shane Montgomery says. "Obviously, the addition of a Southeastern Conference team to our 2007 and 2008 schedules will be a great draw for our fans. Over the next three years, our fans will see the likes of the Big Ten, SEC, Big East and Big 12 play in their own backyard. The success of the program and the support of our fans over the last several years have allowed us this opportunity."
This will be the third and fourth meetings between the two schools. The RedHawks are 1-1 all-time against the Commodores. In the last meeting in 2000, Miami made a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback in the season opener, scoring two touchdowns in the last three minutes for a 33-30 win at Vanderbilt.
"Our agreement with Vanderbilt University is a historical moment within our storied football program," says Director of Athletics Brad Bates. "For a BCS school from the powerful Southeastern Conference to play a home-home series with Miami University is indicative of the national regard our program has earned. We are very grateful to Vanderbilt University for the opportunity and especially pleased that two highly-respected institutions of higher learning will have the opportunity to showcase their scholars on the gridiron."
Season ticket packages for Miami's 2007 five-game home schedule are on sale now by calling the Miami Athletic Ticket Office at 1-866-MUHAWKS (684-2957). Reserved seat season ticket packages range from $85 for the general public to $70 for Miami University faculty and staff. Once again, Butler County residents will have the chance to support their "home team" for $75 per season ticket - a savings of 25 percent.
The RedHawks open Spring Practice on Saturday, March 24 and wrap up with the Red and White Game the evening of Friday, April 20. The Red and White Game is open to the public.
