2010 Miami Football Schedule
OXFORD, Ohio -Miami University's football team faces an exciting 12-game schedule in 2010, including three teams that won 12 games or more a year ago, Director of Athletics BRAD BATES announced today (Mar. 1).
The RedHawks host five home games at Yager Stadium in 2010, including two games in September, two contests in October, and one weeknight game in November. Eastern Michigan (Sept. 11), Colorado State (Sept. 18), Kent State (Oct. 2, Family Weekend) and Ohio (Oct. 23, Homecoming) all visit Oxford for Saturday afternoon games, while Temple comes to Yager for the regular-season Mid-American Conference finale under the lights (Nov. 23).
Bates is excited about the RedHawks' schedule.
"The 2010 schedule follows the steep tradition of Miami Football in playing some of the best teams in the nation," he said. "We host an exciting Conference schedule, with four of our five home games being played on Saturday. We very much look forward to getting back on the field this fall."
Seven of Miami's 12 opponents played in bowl games in 2009, including three of its four non-conference foes.
Miami opens the 2010 campaign in the national spotlight on Sept. 4 with an out-of-league game against Urban Meyer's Florida Gators at The Swamp. Game four will be played in the Show Me State against a bowl-worthy Missouri Tigers team at Faurot Field (Sept. 25). One of the nation's winningest teams over the last three seasons, the Cincinnati Bearcats, will host the RedHawks in MU's final non-conference game at Nippert Stadium (Oct. 9).
Miami doesn't play its first MAC road game until Oct. 16 when it faces defending league champion Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant. After a home game the following week against arch-rival Ohio (Oct. 23), Head Coach MICHAEL HAYWOOD's RedHawks play three consecutive road contests at Buffalo (Oct. 30), Bowling Green (Nov. 10) and Akron (Nov. 17). Miami will play its season finale at home on Tuesday, Nov. 23, against Temple.
Haywood says his team is looking forward to its 2010 opener in Gainesville.
"Opening against Florida in The Swamp will be a great opportunity for Miami's football program," said Haywood. "It will be a tremendous atmosphere for our kids because there's nothing like SEC football."
The second-year coach also is very pleased with the lineup of the 2010 home schedule.
"With two Saturday games in September and two in October, our first four home games against Eastern Michigan, Colorado State, Kent State and Ohio should all have great weather conditions," said Haywood. "We are looking forward to having a great crowd on hand for the home opener against Eastern Michigan and building momentum for the rest of the season, all the way through the last home game against Temple."
