OXFORD, Ohio (AP) -Ten third-quarter points pushed Miami University's football team within four points of Temple University on Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium, but it was not enough as the Owls (2-4; 1-2 Mid-American Conference) soared to a 28-10 win over the RedHawks (1-4; 0-2 MAC)

Chester Stewart threw three touchdown passes - two to Bruce Francis in the fourth quarter - to lead Temple to victory. Stewart completed just 11-of-23 passes for 178 yards, but hooked up with Steve Maneri for a 2-yard score in the second quarter before hitting Francis on 43- and 6-yard touchdown plays in a span of just over two minutes of the final period.

Kee-ay Griffin added a 25-yard touchdown run for the Owls.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Clay Belton came into the game in the second half to direct the Miami offense on a pair of scoring drives. Thomas Merriweather scored on a 2-yard run for Miami, which also picked up points on Nathan Parseghian's 34-yard field goal.

Belton hit on 14-of-22 passes for 147 yards with one interception in relief of Daniel Raudabaugh, who hit on 8-of-18 for 65 yards. The duo combined for 212 passing yards. Sophomore Jamal Rogers was the main target with eight catches for 62 yards.

Merriweather rambled for 133 yards on 26 carries, for an average of 5.1 yards per rush. It was the first 100-yard rushing game of his career.

The RedHawks fumbled the ball away three times and also had an interception. They mustered 91 yards rushing on 39 attempts. Temple had four sacks for 38 yards in losses.

Miami hits the road for a the first of two-straight away games when they travel to Northern Illinois for a 3 p.m. (CT) game on Saturday, Oct. 11.
