J.D. Vonderheide begins his initial season as tight ends coach for Miami University's football team.
In 2009, he served as the team's Director of Football Operations.
A former Miami football letter winner, he enters his fifth year on the RedHawks staff, having served as Miami's offensive graduate assistant coach from 2006-08.
Vonderheide lettered for three seasons as a reserve quarterback and the starting holder on placekicks and PATs for Miami. He was part of the 2003 team that won a MAC Championship and finished the season ranked No. 10 nationally, and also played a key role in Miami connecting on a program-record 17 consecutive field goals between 2002-03.
After graduating from Miami in 2004 with a physical education degree, Vonderheide spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the College of Wooster, mentoring the wide receivers.
Vonderheide is a native of Batesville, Ind., and graduated from East Central High School. A former all-Indiana selection, Vonderheide helped the Trojans to a 12-2 record and conference title as a senior. He was all-county in three different sports.
Vonderheide is engaged to be married to Andrea Cunningham.
