12th Season

The veteran of Miami's football coaching staff, entering his 12th year, is passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Brian Von Bergen. He has overseen the rewriting of Miami's receiving record books during his career.

Promoted to passing game coordinator, along with his responsibilities as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, by Shane Montgomery in February of 2005, Von Bergen has played an integral role in an offense that has transformed Miami football.

Under Von Bergen's tutelage, Miami has turned out the four most-productive wide receivers in program history, as the quartet of Trevor Gaylor, Michael Larkin, Martin Nance and Ryne Robinson have stamped their names prominently in the Miami, Mid-American Conference and even NCAA record books. Under Von Bergen's watch, Miami's career receiving yardage record has fallen four times already.

Most recently, Robinson--a fourth-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2007 NFL draft--finished his career by breaking Nance's career records for receiving yards (3,697) and receptions (258) while eclipsing Miami's single-season record with 91 catches in 2006.

Along with his coaching successes, Von Bergen has directed a highly successful recruiting program that has expanded Miami's recruiting scope and consistently lured the level of talent necessary to maintain Miami's reputation as one of college football's winningest programs.

Von Bergen came to Miami after serving as the Director of Football Operations at Northwestern University. During his two seasons with the Wildcats, Von Bergen also served as the assistant recruiting coordinator, responsible for all recruiting activities on the Northwestern campus. Prior to joining Northwestern's staff in 1997, he was the recruiting coordinator and running backs coach at Southern Illinois University for one year.

While a graduate assistant at Miami from 1993-95, Von Bergen assisted with the coaching of wide receivers and outside linebackers while coordinating video operations.

Von Bergen earned his bachelor's degree in journalism at Illinois in 1992 and completed his master's degree in sports psychology from Miami in 1994.

He and his wife, Erin, reside in Oxford with their son, Gunnar.
