HIGH SCHOOL: Coached by Steve Schultze, Matthews earned first-team all-state honors as an offensive lineman in 2010 and was a first-team all-district two-way lineman (OL and DL) ... Matthews was the lineman the Eagle running backs ran behind, accumulating 3,500 rushing yards and 1,506 passing yards in 13 games ... the team also averaged 41 points per game en route to reaching the state semifinal game (12-1 record) ... defensively, he had 58 tackles, 12 TFLs, six QB sacks, caused two fumbles and blocked a kick ... during his three letter-winning years at Osbourne, the Eagles won 30 games and lost 10, including a berth in the state fi nals Matthews' junior year ... he earned three letters as a heavyweight wrestler ... earned a 3.0 high school grade-point average.
