Jimmy Lindsey begins his second season with the Miami RedHawks as the program's defensive ends coach and co-special teams coordinator.
Lindsey's linemen were a big part of Miami's defensive domination of the MAC in 2007. The RedHawks led the league in six different statistical categories, including rushing defense, total defense and scoring defense. They also ranked first in the league in quarterback sacks. Miami's 7-0 shutout of Akron on Nov. 14 was the only one posted by MAC teams during the 2007 season.
Lindsey brings seven years of coaching experience to the RedHawk program. During his previous four years at Gardner-Webb, Lindsey spent three seasons as the defensive line coach (2003-04; 2006) and one mentoring the linebackers (2005), while also serving as the program's recruiting coordinator. Under his tutelage, numerous players earned all-Big South honors, while Harold Wells was named I-AA National Defensive Lineman of the Year by the Football Gazette and set a school record by earning first-team All-America honors from six different organizations during the 2004 season. Wells was a two-time All-American for GWU, while Brandon Schweitzer went on to earn I-AA All-East Region status in 2004.
Lindsey came to GWU from Tennessee-Chattanooga, where he served as an assistant coach with the Mocs' program in 2002, spending that season in charge of the team's linebackers.
Under Lindsey's guidance, UTC linebacker Josh Cain earned second-team I-AA All-America honors in 2002 and was an All-Southern Conference choice after leading the nation with 192 total tackles. Cain, who signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears, finished as the second-leading tackler in UTC history with 509 career hits.
Lindsey, a former linebacker himself with the Mocs' program, spent the previous two seasons as a restricted earnings assistant coach at UTC.
As an undergraduate on the gridiron, Lindsey was one of four team captains as a senior in 1999. He led the Mocs with 95 tackles in 1999. Lindsey was a three-time member of the Dean's List as a student at UTC, and was the 1999 recipient of the Marco Sheppard Mr. Hustle Award.
A member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Lindsey graduated from UTC with a degree in Sports Administration in 2001.
He and his wife, Laura, have a daughter, Kiara.
