As head strength and conditioning coach, he is charged with the oversight of the entire strength and conditioning program for Miami's 19 varsity sports. His numerous responsibilities, along with working with Miami's coaches and student-athletes to promote individual and team success, have included assisting with the daily operation and scheduling of the weight room and overseeing the upkeep and purchase of weightroom equipment.

Voted the 2003-04 Miami Athletics Teammate of the Year in recognition of his commitment to Miami Athletics, Carsey has helped the RedHawk strength and conditioning program produce 30 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) All-Americans since joining the staff in 2001, while seven of the teams he has worked with have won league championships and eight others have captured runner-up finishes. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Collegiate Strength Coach Certified and is certified by the USA Weight Lifting Association as a Sport Performance Coach.

A 1997 graduate of Ashland University, where he was a four-year football letterwinner, Carsey holds both bachelor's and master's degrees (2004) from his alma mater. After completing his undergraduate work, Carsey spent two seasons at North Union High School in Richwood, Ohio. In 1999, he returned to Ashland to serve as a graduate assistant football and strength coach.

He resides in Oxford with his wife, Kerrie.
