OXFORD, Ohio (AP) (Jan. 20, 2001) -- Alex Shorts scored a career-high 28 points and Jason Grunkemeyer added 13 to lead Miami to a 74-42 victory over Buffalo on Saturday in the
Mid-American Conference.
Miami (7-10, 3-3 MAC) started the second half with a 12-point lead over Buffalo (2-12, 0-7) and steadily increased it to 32 points for the RedHawks' highest margin
of victory since an 85-53 victory over Ohio in 1998.
Shorts, who scored 20 of his points in the first half, led Miami on an 8-0 run beginning at the 3:49 mark and ending with a halftime score of 31-19. He drained 10-of-12 from the field in the first stanza, including nailing eight straight field goals.
Grunkemeyer, who posted a game-high four assists and three steals, started out the second half with a 3-pointer to put Miami ahead 34-19, and Buffalo never got closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Louis Campbell led the scoring for Buffalo with 11 points. He was the only Buffalo player in double figures. Jason Robinson led the Bulls in rebounds with a
game-high seven.
Miami shot 49 percent from the field, compared with 34 percent by Buffalo. The RedHawks committed only five turnovers, compared with 19 by the Bulls.
Buffalo suffered its seventh consecutive loss, leaving the Bulls 0-7 in conference play.
