His assistant coach, Chris Coles, is the son of Miami head coach Charlie Coles. SVSU's other assistant coach also has Miami ties. Barry Huckeby was a letterwiner for the Red and White in 1994. Additionally, Saginaw Valley State Athletics Director Mike Watson is a former Miami associate athletics director and football coach at Miami, and SVSU senior guard Lawrence Ross was a member of the RedHawk program for two years before transferring to Saginaw Valley State following the 2005-06 season.

THE RETURNERS: Back are senior starters Michael Bramos, Tyler Dierkers, Kenny Hayes and Eric Pollitz, along with a cast of returning letterwinners in seniors Carl Richburg and Isiah Carson, junior Adam Fletcher and sophomores Sean Mock, Rodney Haddix II and Nick Winbush. Also returning is sophomore Antonio Ballard, who is coming of a medical redshirt last season, and redshirt freshman Adam Thomas. Miami returns 68.0 percent of its rebounding and 69.5 percent of its scoring from a season ago but will have to fill the shoes of three-time all-MAC selection Tim Pollitz, who earned back-to-back first-team distinction in 2007 and 2008. A dynamic forward, he led the team in rebounding and assists last season and ranked second in scoring average.
FRESH FACES: Joining the mix this season are three true freshmen: forward Julian Mavunga, guard Kramer Soderberg and center Vince Legarza.
BRAMOS TABBED PRESEASON MAC ALL-EAST DIVISION: Senior forward Michael Bramos was named to the Mid-American Conference Preseason All-East Division Team. The West Division representatives were Anthony Newell (Ball State), Carlos Medlock (Eastern Michigan), Darion Anderson (Northern Illinois), Tyrone Kent (Toledo) and David Kool (Western Michigan).
