Dwight McCombs--July 29, 2008

So far my summer has been grand. I started my summer by taking two different summer classes in communication. Those went well, but hanging out with the team was much more enjoyable. After my summer classes were over, I was eager to get back home to my family.

For the month of July, I've been spending time with my family and playing basketball. I spent a majority of my time with my sisters. Since none of us live in the same area, they all came back home to spend a portion of their summer with me. We spent our time together reminiscing over the past while eating some of Chicago's best chicken (Harold's). When we weren't enjoying each other's company, they came to watch me play at the Pro-Am where I play for Leak-and-Sons.

Since they've left Chicago, I have spent the remainder of the summer with my father. Though I've enjoyed the alone time with my father, I also got the opportunity to spend a week with a few of my family members from New Jersey. During that week, I chauffeured them around the city, showed them the good spots to eat at while they in turn enjoyed my playing on the court.

As far as basketball goes and my summer work out plans, as I've said before I play at the Pro-Am on Leak-and-Sons. We play once a week and though we lost our first game on July 27, we still qualified for the play-offs which start in two weeks. Besides that, I play at Fosco Park on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. These runs (comparable to an open gym) consist of players from Chicago who play overseas. After that, I lift in order to maintain my weight and continue to get stronger.

The week before school starts, I'm taking a vacation to Wisconsin Dells. It's a family tradition to go there once a year. It's a place that's not that far but stills allows us to get away. After that, I'm taking a trip to Nashville, Tenn., to visit my sister. From there it's back to Miami.

I'm looking forward to getting back to school and hitting the court. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
