OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University men's basketball head coach Charlie Coles announced today the signing of William Hatcher (Flint, Mich./Carman-Ainsworth). He becomes the third player to sign a national letter-of-intent to join the Miami men's basketball program in the fall of 2002.
"William is a good all-around player, who can play the point guard or off-guard positions," says Coles. "I expect him to come into our program and contribute immediately."
Hatcher, a 6-foot-2 guard, averaged 18.6 points, five assists and four rebounds per game for the Cavaliers as a senior en route to first-team all-conference and honorable mention all-state recognition. A three-year letterwinner in basketball at Carman-Ainsworth, Hatcher led the team in scoring the past three seasons and was a two-time first-team all-conference selection. Hatcher ranks among school leaders for career points and single-season points. He captained the team his senior season.
Hatcher joins 6-foot-3 guard Josh Hausfeld (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) and 6-foot-10 forward/center John Morningstar (Goshen Ind./Concord) in the program's 2002-03 freshman class.
