CLEVELAND-Miami University freshman guard Josh Hausfeld (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team, the conference office announced Monday. Hausfeld is the third consecutive RedHawk to earn the honor, joining teammates Danny Horace and Juby Johnson. He is the 11th player in program history to be named to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
Hasufeld started in 18 of Miami's 27 regular-season contests and has made 17 consecutive starts heading into the 2003 FirstEnergy Mid-American Conference Tournament. He has emerged as one of Miami's top three-point shooters and hit 40.2 percent of his three-point attempts in league play. In 11 games, Hausfeld has hit multiple three-point shots and has shot 50.0 percent from three-point range in eight games. On Jan. 20, Hausfeld had a break-out game as he poured in a career-high 19 points, drilling 7-of -10 field goals and 5-of-7 three-pointers. He also handed out six assists and pulled down a career-best five rebounds versus the Zips. In league play, Hausfeld averaged 8.2 points per game and posted a 2.1 assist/turnover ratio.
Hausfeld joins Toledo's Sammy Villegas, who also was named MAC Freshman of the Year, Bowling Green's Ron Lewis, Kent State's DeAndre Haynes and Northern Illinois' Todd Peterson on the five-member team.
