CLEVELAND - Miami University freshman forward Danny Horace (Cincinnati, Ohio/Western Hills) was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team as voted by the 13 MAC head coaches, the league office announced Monday. The 6-foot-5 Horace becomes the second RedHawk in two years to garner all-Freshman accolades and the 10th Miami player to earn the honor. Juby Johnson was named to the all-Freshman team last year.

Horace leads the team in blocked shots (33), which ties Jim Paul's 1989 total for eighth on Miami's single-season list. His 33 blocked shots are a Miami freshman record and led all conference freshmen this season. Averaging 1.14 blocked shots per game, Horace ranks fourth nationally for small shot blockers (6-foot-5 and under) and is sixth among Mid-American Conference statistical leaders.

Opening his career in grand fashion, Horace produced an 11-point 14-rebound double-double in Miami's season opener at UNC Wilmington, while compiling 19 points and 10 rebounds in his first career start against Wright State. Also against the Raiders, Horace swatted away five shots, which ties for fifth with five individuals on Miami's single-game list. He also amassed 11 points and a game-best 14 rebounds in the RedHawks' 100-94 double overtime win at Central Michigan.

In an 80-77 win over Ball State, Horace was a perfect 9-of-9 against Cardinals, producing the best shooting game of any MAC player this season-two others have gone 8-for-8 from the field. Over a three-game span (Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo), Horace missed just one field goal, going 14-of-15 (.933) from the field. In Miami's final 11 regular-season games, Horace was 20-of-23 from the free-throw line (.870).

Horace joins former Western Hills teammate Darryl Peterson (Akron), Turner Battle (Buffalo), Nate Gerwig (Kent State) and Ben Reed (Western Michigan) on the all-Freshman Team. Reed was tabbed the league's Freshman of the Year by the MAC News Media Association.
