THE GAME
With one more win, Miami (11-16, 8-8 Mid-American Conference) could cinch home-court advantage for the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The RedHawks try to make that a reality, hosting Buffalo (12-15, 7-9 MAC) on Monday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. A Miami win over the Bulls would assure the RedHawks no less than a 9-9 finish and at least the No. 8 seed in the tournament. The only scenario that would leave Miami out of the top eight with a 9-9 record would be with a loss to the Bulls, a win over Kent State and finishing in a four-way tie with Western Michigan, Buffalo and Northern Illinois. Miami would make the top eight in every other situation with at least one more win.
The Bulls, who are coming off an 87-62 win over Marshall on Saturday, are fighting to be among the top eight and earn a first-round game at home, but need wins at Miami and at Bowling Green on Monday and Wednesday, respectively. The Bulls have just two MAC road wins this season (at Eastern Michigan, 70-57, at Marshall, 82-72), and have lost four straight road games. Darcel Williams leads Buffalo, averaging 15.5 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. Louis Campbell adds 13.3 ppg.
Alex Shorts paces Miami with 13.2 ppg. Doug Davis adds 11.9 ppg, while Juby Johnson chips in 10.3 ppg for the RedHawks. In league action, Davis averages a team-best 14.7 ppg.
