THE GAME
Trying to extend its Mid-American Conference home win streak to 10, Miami (11-14, 8-6 MAC) hosts Bowling Green (19-6, 9-5 MAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. Ironically, the Falcons are the last MAC team to defeat the RedHawks in Millett Hall, posting a 67-63 overtime triumph on Feb. 3, 2001. In addition to trying to preserve its home win streak, the RedHawks need to pick up a few wins over their final four games to not only secure first round hosting rights, but to earn a solid seed in the MAC Tournament. Bowling Green, on the other hand, is working to earn a first-round bye as one of the top three seeds in the tournament and is battling Ohio for the No. 3 seed.
The Falcons are coming off a 66-62 overtime loss at Toledo on Monday. Bowling Green has been fairly successful in Millett Hall as of late, having won its last two contests in Oxford. The Falcons also have won their last three meetings with the RedHawks, including a 64-61 triumph this season in Bowling Green on Feb. 2. Keith McLeod, the MAC's top scorer, paces the Falcons, averaging 23.0 points per game. McLeod had 19 points against Miami three weeks ago, drilling key three pointers to lift the Falcons to the three-point win. Len Matela and Brandon Pardon average 15.6 and 10.3 ppg, respectively, for the Falcons.
Alex Shorts leads the RedHawks with 13.5 ppg and is followed by Doug Davis' 12.2 ppg and Juby Johnson's 10.3 ppg. Davis yields a team-best 15.6 ppg in league action. Miami is outscoring its MAC foes at home 70.8 to 59.2 and, led by Davis' 16.7 ppg, has four players averaging double figures in home MAC games.
