THE GAME
Following a 79-55 win over Ohio, Miami (11-12, 8-4 Mid-American Conference) hits the road to round out its five-game, eight-day stretch, traveling to Marshall (11-11, 5-7 MAC) for a 7:30 p.m. battle with the Thundering Herd on Thursday and playing at Kent State at 7 p.m. Saturday. With its win over Ohio, the RedHawks moved into a second-place tie in the East Division with Bowling Green and are tied for second overall with the Falcons and Ball State.
Miami and Marshall have already met once this season with the RedHawks posting an 80-65 triumph in Millett Hall on Jan. 9. Juby Johnson paced the RedHawks with a career-best 26 points, drilling 9-of-11 field goals, including 6-of-8 three-point shots in that meeting.
Marshall is trying to rebound from an 83-60 loss at Bowling Green on Saturday, but has won three of its last four at home, including a 98-95 double overtime win against MAC West Division leader Ball State on Jan. 29. Tamar Slay leads the team, averaging 18.0 points per game, while J.R. Van Hoose posts 14.9 ppg and a team-high 11.1 rebounds per game.
For the RedHawks, Doug Davis, who scored a career-best 25 points against Ohio on Monday-his sixth 20 or more point effort this season, leads Miami in MAC games, averaging 16.3 ppg. Davis also dishes out 1.7 assist to every turnover. Johnson and Alex Short follow with 12.6 and 12.2 ppg, respectively, while Chet Mason notches a team-best 6.3 rpg in league play.
