CLEVELAND--Miami University senior guard Kenny Hayes (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont/Cincinnati State) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
Hayes led Miami in a pair of road wins, snapping a 15-game road skid dating back to last season, averaging 19.0 ppg, while shooting 56 percent from the field, and also averaging 4.0 rpg and 3.0 apg for the week.
He led the RedHawks with 16 points at Western Michigan, including the game-winning field goal with 0.8 seconds remaining to lift Miami to a 56-54 win against the Broncos, its first true road victory of the season. Hayes added five rebounds, five assists and one steal in the winning effort, hitting 53.3 percent of his shots from the floor.
At Northern Illinois, Hayes led all players with 22 points, his fifth 20-point scoring effort of the season, as the RedHawks clinched a 74-69 win against the Huskies. He shot a superb 60 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range (3-of-5) while knocking down 7-of-9 free throws. His three treys helped Miami to one of its best 3-point shooting efforts of the season, nailing 12 and shooting a season-best 63.2 percent from long range as a team.
In addition to collecting two road wins last week, Miami extended its win streak to a season-long four games.
Hayes shared the award with Kent State's Chris Singletary.
