OXFORD, Ohio--Making its fifth appearance in the O'Reilly ESPNU BracketBuster, Miami University's men's basketball team will face Valparaiso University on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Valparaiso, Ind. The game will be one of the 14 nationally-televised games as part of O'Reilly ESPNU BracketBuster.
Game times and network assignments will be announced on Monday, Feb. 11. In total, 28 teams will square off on ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN360.com and ESPN Classic Feb. 22-24.
This will be the first meeting in series history between Miami (10-10; 4-4 Mid-American Conference) and Valparaiso and is the first time the RedHawks face a member of the Horizon League in a BracketBuster game. It also marks Miami's third televised game as part of the BracketBuster with its 2003-04 and 2004-05 BracketBuster games also being televised on the ESPN Networks.
Miami's previous BracketBuster matchups all have come against Missouri Valley Conference schools. Miami defeated all of its MVC foes in the BracketBuster games, downing Missouri State 75-66 in 2003-04, Wichita State 65-58 in 2004-05, Illinois State 51-49 in 2005-06 and Indiana State 70-58 in 2007-06.
Valparaiso owns a 14-7 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the Horizon League. The Crusaders have a balanced scoring attack. Jerryd Loyd and Shawn Huff each average a team-leading 11.6 ppg. Loyd also averages 4.0 apg off the bench. Samuel Haanpaa averages 10.9 ppg, while Urule Igbavboa averages 9.8 ppg, Brandon McPherson averages 9.7 ppg and Bryan Bouchie averages 8.3 ppg. Igbavboa leads the team, averaging 6.7 rpg.
