THE GAME
Head coach Charlie Coles hopes to celebrate his 60th birthday with Miami's second true road win of the season as the RedHawks (8-12, 5-4 Mid-American Conference) travel to Buffalo (10-11, 5-5 MAC) for a 7 p.m. battle with the Bulls on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Buffalo, however, is a much improved team and playing well at home, having knocked off three Mid-American Conference opponents this season in Alumni Arena: Akron (79-60), Kent State (66-65), Northern Illinois (75-65). With a 64-61 loss at Bowling Green on Saturday, Miami's road record dropped to 1-8. The RedHawks have won just one MAC game away from Millett Hall, which was a 100-94 double overtime triumph at Central Michigan.
Three players score in double figures for the Bulls: Darcel Williams (16.5 points per game), Louis Campbell (14.2 ppg) and Robert Brown (10.4 ppg). Williams also boasts a team-best 8.8 rebounds per game. Brown is an effective shooter, hitting 57.3 percent of his field goals and 50 percent of his three-point attempts. Currently the Bulls are averaging 69.5 ppg, while giving up 70.4 ppg. With one of the league's stingiest defenses, Miami gives up an average of 67.2 ppg and averages 63.3 ppg.
With his 10 points against the Falcons, Doug Davis extended his string of double figures scoring games to nine, all coming in MAC play. In league contests, Davis leads the team averaging 16.7 ppg. Juby Johnson follows with 14.0 ppg, while Alex Shorts averages 11.3 ppg. Both Danny Horace and Chester Mason grab 6.2 boards per game in league play, while Eugene Seals averages 6.0 rpg.
