THE GAME
After playing its last two games on the road, Miami (7-11, 4-3 Mid-American Conference) returns home for a home game against West Division leader Ball State (13-5, 6-1 MAC) at 3 p.m. Saturday before hitting the road for another two-game stretch. Saturday also is Hall of Fame Day when Miami will induct six individuals into its Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime.
Winners of its last six games, Ball State also boasts season-opening wins over No. 3 Kansas and No. 4 UCLA, while battling No. 1 Duke in an 83-71 loss. The Cardinals began league play with a loss to Kent State (81-54), but have been hot ever since. Theron Smith paces BSU averaging double figures in points (18.8) and rebounds (18.2). Patrick Jackson and Chris Williams also notch double figures in scoring, posting 18.2 and 15.4 points per game, respectively. Lonnie Jones boasts 43 blocked shots this season (2.4 per game).
Miami tries to rebound from road losses at Ohio and Northern Illinois and is happy to be back on its home court where it has produced five of its seven wins. Sophomores Eugene Seals and Juby Johnson recorded double-doubles for the RedHawks at Northern Illinois with Johnson leading all scorers with 25 points and Seals pacing all rebounders with a career-best 16 rebounds. Doug Davis manufactured his fourth 20-point performance this season-all coming in league action.
