THE GAME
In the second of its two-game road stretch, Miami (7-10, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) faces Northern Illinois (5-9, 1-4 MAC) at 7:05 p.m. (CST) Tuesday. The RedHawks try for just their second true road victory this season-the other coming in double overtime at Central Michigan. Both teams are trying to end a one-game losing streak.
NIU tries to rebound from an 89-80 loss at Toledo last Wednesday. The Huskies host their first home game since a 72-70 triumph over Buffalo on Jan. 5. Leon Rodgers paces the Huskies, averaging 20.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Rodgers led NIU in scoring and rebounding in nine of its 14 contests.
The RedHawks try to bounce back from an 85-61 road loss at Ohio on Saturday, but Chick Evans Field House has not been a friendly venue for the Red and White. Losing its last three in DeKalb, Miami has not won on the Huskies' home court since 1984 and has only won three of its 12 meetings with NIU in DeKalb.
Three RedHawks average double figures in scoring: Alex Shorts (14.5), Doug Davis (10.9) and Juby Johnson (10.4). Miami continues to be paced on the boards by Danny Horace (7.2) and Chet Mason (6.0). In league only games, four RedHawks are averaging double figures in scoring: Davis (16.5), Johnson (13.0), Shorts (12.7) and Mason (10.2). Horace and Mason grab 7.3 and 6.5 rebounds per game in MAC action, respectively.
