OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Doug Davis scored 21 points, including four free throws in the final 2:41, to lead Miami to an 80-77 victory over Ball State on Saturday.

Miami did not score from the field in the final 3:51 after a dunk by Danny Horace gave the RedHawks a 74-63 lead. But Alex Shorts hit two free throws, and Davis was 4-for-4 and that was enough to hold off the Ball State rally.

Horace finished with 20 points for Miami (8-11, 5-3 Mid-American Conference), Juby Johnson had 13 and Shorts 10.

Theron Smith led Ball State (13-6, 6-2 MAC) with 20 points. Patrick Jackson added 18, Chris Williams 15 and Brian Burns 10. The loss ended Ball State's six-game winning streak, and was the Cardinals' 10th straight loss in Oxford.

Miami used three 8-0 runs to take a 49-35 lead at halftime, the RedHawks' biggest first-half point total and lead of the season, but was outscored 42-31 in the second half. The RedHawks' 52.8 shooting percentage from the field was thier best effort of the season.

Horace was 9-for-9 from the field but fouled out when he was given a technical foul for hanging on the rim following the dunk that gave Miami an 11-point lead. Ball State outscored Miami 14-6 after that but missed two 3-point shots in the final five seconds.
