OXFORD, Ohio--Behind a season-high 20 points by junior guard Kenny Hayes, Miami University head coach Charlie Coles registered his 200th win at the helm of the RedHawk program as the Red and White downed the University at Buffalo Bulls 64-57 on Sunday afternoon at Millett Hall.

The win, which snapped a five-game skid, also was the 176th career Mid-American Conference win for Coles, moving him into a tie with former Ohio University head coach Jim Snyder on the MAC's all-time league win chart.

Miami moved to 7-9 on the season and 1-3 in MAC play, while Buffalo dropped to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in MAC action.

In addition to Hayes' 20 points, which led all scorers, senior forward Tim Pollitz scored 18 points and had eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Junior guard/forward Eric Pollitz added 10 points, a career-high seven rebounds and three assists, while junior center Tyler Dierkers tied a career-high with nine rebounds.

Miami jumped out to a 4-0 start and built an 8-2 lead by the 13:58 mark off a Hayes jumper. Buffalo chipped away at the Miami lead to knot the game, 18-18, off a Jawaan Alston layup at 7:44. But Miami went on a 9-0 flurry over the next two minutes as Eric Pollitz drained a 3-pointer, Tim Pollitz added a layup and Hayes capped the run scoring four points to put the RedHawks up 27-18 by the 5:06 mark. Buffalo finished the first half strong, outscoring the RedHawks 13-2 to hold a 31-29 advantage at the half.

The RedHawks opened the second half the same as the first, scoring four unanswered points. A jumper by Tim Pollitz with 14:18 remaining pushed the Miami lead to five points, 41-36. The Bulls would come back to take a 44-43 lead with 11:24 left off a Greg Gamble layup.

Tim Pollitz caused two Buffalo turnovers which resulted in a pair of fastbreak layups for Pollitz to give the RedHawks a 47-44 advantage with 9:53 to play and a lead they would not relinquish. Miami pushed its lead to eight points in the second half off a pair of Eric Pollitz free throws with 24 seconds remaining, and the RedHawks would go on to post a 62-54 win.

Miami makes a trip north to Bowling Green for a 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The RedHawks return home for "Doubleheader Saturday" on Jan. 26 when the women's basketball team takes on Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. and the men's basketball team hosts Eastern Michigan at approximately 4 p.m.
