Todd Lickliter Position: Assistant Coach Experience: MU-1 Season Education: Butler ('79)

Todd Lickliter joined the Miami University men's basketball staff as an assistant coach in July 2011.

Lickliter brings a wealth of experience to the RedHawk program having served as a head coach at the Division I level for nine seasons, six at Butler (2001-07) and then three at Iowa (2007-10). He has amassed a 169-116 record as a head coach and was tabbed the 2007 NABC Coach of the Year. He also served two stints as an assistant coach at Butler (1988-89 and 1999-2001) and a stint as an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan (1997-99).

"Todd is a long-time colleague in the profession and friend whose coaching skills and ability to teach the game I've valued and respected for many years," said Coles. "When the position opened up, I called Todd not sure what his interest would be, and he said he was interested in joining our staff. I believe this is a great addition to the nucleus of coaches we have and only enhances the existing strength of our staff."

"In addition to being a long-time friend, I think Charlie Coles' reputation, his abilities and his character are of the highest magnitude. There is not another coach for whom I'd rather work. Over the years, I've enjoyed a good working relationship with Jermaine (Henderson) and Jason (Grunkemeyer) and have been very impressed by them both. There are so many positives, so this was a very easy decision for me. I'm thankful for the opportunity and I'm looking forward to being a part of the Miami community."

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Lickliter prepped at North Central High School under his father, Arlan. He began his college career at UNC Wilmington before transferring to Central Florida Community College. He played one season at Central Florida Community College, earning his associate's degree in 1977, before transferring to Butler where he played his final two collegiate seasons. Lickliter earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Butler in 1979.

His first post was at Park Tudor High School, were he served as head coach from 1979-87. He then spent a year at Danville Community High School before his first stint as an assistant coach at Butler under his former head coach, Joe Sexson. He then returned to Danville Community High School for three years. In 1996, Lickliter returned to the collegiate ranks as an administrative assistant under Barry Collier. The following year he joined the Eastern Michigan staff under Milton Barnes, before returning to Butler in 1999 where he served as an assistant again under Collier and then for one year under Thad Matta.

Lickliter succeeded Matta as head coach at his alma mater in 2001 and led the Bulldogs to three Horizon League titles, a Preseason NIT Championship in 2006, two NIT appearances and two NCAA Sweet 16 runs.

In his first season guiding the Bulldogs, Lickliter became the first basketball coach in Butler history to win his first 13 games, and he became the first coach to lead Butler to more than 20 regular season wins, leading the team to 27 wins. He followed that with a 27-win season in 2002-03.

In 2006-07, Lickliter earned his second straight Horizon League Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Bulldogs to a then school-record 29 wins. Butler was ranked in the top 25 for 16 consecutive weeks during the 2006-07 season and became the first in the history of the Horizon League to be ranked among the top 10.

Lickliter was announced as the 21st head men's basketball coach in Iowa history in April 2007.

Lickliter and his wife, Joez, have three sons: Ry, Garrett and John.
