One of Miami's most highly touted recruits in recent years ... could be,
perhaps, the most highly touted basketball player to sign with Miami since
Ron Harper did so in 1983 ... an outstanding athlete who should see some
significant minutes in his rookie season ... has the chance to become a
good offensive player because of his shooting ability ... can also create
his own shot ... part of a freshmen recruiting class recognized as one of
the best, if not the best, in the MAC this year.

Named Ohio's player of the year by Gatorade Circle of Champions ... led
Warrensville Heights to its first state championship (Ohio Division II) in
2000 ... tabbed the tourney's MVP ... averaged 25.6 points and 14.0
rebounds for the 25-2 Tigers ... earned first-team AP all-Ohio and
honorable mention all-USA Today honors ... named to Cleveland Plain Dealer
all-star team ... 1999 preseason McDonald's All-American ... transferred to
Warrensville Heights from Garfield Heights following his junior year when
he averaged 29 points and 14 rebounds per game ... helped the Tigers earn
their first state semifinal appearance with a 22-point effort in an 83-53
win over Triway ... scored 15 points in state semifinal win over Lima
Shawnee and a game-high 28 points, including an OT-forcing three-pointer
with 39.5 seconds left, in the 76-74 win over Cincinnati's Purcell Marian
in the state title game ... coached by Dennis Chimes ... invited to
participate in Wendy's Classic all-star games, but could not play due to an
injury ... tabbed one of the nation's top players by Bob Gibbons (62nd
nationally) and John Stovall (48th nationally).
Personal
Born Nov. 8, 1981 (20 years old) ... older brother, Sonny, is a junior on
Cleveland State's team ... son of William and Narbell Johnson.
