OXFORD, Ohio - After taking the first two games of Miami baseball’s annual Red & White Series last weekend, the Red Team needs to win just one of the final three games to clinch the best-of-five intrasquad series which resumes Thursday at McKie Field at Hayden Park and concludes Saturday. Thursday’s and Friday’s scrimmages begin at 3:30 p.m. while Saturday’s finale has first pitch set for 1 p.m.

Red took the series opener Oct. 2, 3-1, as freshman Brooks Fiala (Carmel, Ind.) tossed three innings of one-run ball to pick up the win while sophomore Joe Neff (Carmel, Ind.) tossed a perfect seventh and final inning to pick up the save. Fiala added a pair of hits and an RBI at the plate while junior Bryce Redeker (Watseka, Ill.) went yard and scored twice.

In game two Oct. 3, Red persevered 9-5 after jumping out to a 7-0 lead through four innings. Ten members of the Red Team recorded a hit, including freshman catcher Nate Bowles’ (Dayton, Ohio) two-run homer. Freshman Mason Reynolds (West Carrollton, Ohio) grabbed the win for Red, tossing two scoreless innings. Freshman Bryan Beaver (West Chester, Ohio) had three doubles in the game for White.

Junior first baseman Kyle Weldon (Mason, Ohio) has a team-high four hits for the Red Team through two games and is batting .500, while Fiala is batting .600 (3-for-5) in the two contests. For White, Beaver’s four hits and .571 average lead the way in the series.

Thursday’s scrimmage features Reynolds starting on the mound again for Red while sophomore Matt Rosinski (University Heights, Ohio) will make his second start for the White Team. Friday’s pitching match-up pits sophomore Lance Kingrey (Hilliard, Ohio), who tossed two scoreless innings for Red in game two, against redshirt sophomore John Greene (Oxford, Ohio), who makes his second start of the series, while Saturday’s finale will have Fiala starting a second time for Red and senior Reece Asbury (Centerville, Ohio) starting for White.

The Red & White Series is open to the public and admission is free for all three scrimmages this weekend.
