OXFORD, Ohio -
For the second straight year, redshirt-senior and recent Miami graduate Matt Erwood (Atlanta, Ga.) was recognized by the Mid-American Conference for his outstanding academic achievement. Erwood was one of 16 MAC baseball players recognized, and the only RedHawk to receive Academic All-MAC honors.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Erwood graduates with a 3.87 GPA and a degree in Zoology. He continually held one of the highest GPAs on the Miami baseball team, serving as a positive role model for the younger players.
Erwood was also recognized for his performance on the field, earning First-Team All-MAC honors for the first time in his career. He led all Miami starters in ERA (4.46), innings pitched (78.2), wins (7) and strikeouts (53).
With his recognitions both on and off the field, Erwood becomes the first Miami player since Gary Wright in 1973 to earn both Academic All-MAC and First-Team All-MAC honors in the same season.
