OXFORD, Ohio -- OXFORD, Ohio--Miami University junior second baseman Evan Armitage (Milford, Ohio/Milford) was one of 19 student-athletes to earn Baseball Academic All-MAC accolades, the Mid-American Conference office announced Tuesday (June 12).

Armitage, who carries a 3.68 GPA and majors in mechanical engineering, was one of just three RedHawks to compete in all 56 games, making 52 starts during the 2007 season. Armitage compiled a team-leading seven triples, which ranked second on Miami's single-season list. Additionally, Armitage ranked 19th nationally in triples and helped Miami to a No. 15 national ranking in triples as a team. In league-only games, Armitage led the MAC in triples.

With a .961 fielding percentage, he helped anchor a Miami defense which ranked first in the MAC and 19th nationally in fielding. From his second base position, Armitage helped turned 33 of the team's 48 double plays. At the plate, Armitage recorded a 13-game hitting streak from Apr. 27-May 14. He also had 17 multiple-hit games this season, which ranked second on the team.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics and is voted upon by the league's faculty athletic representatives. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
