Miami University baseball star Tommy Nurre (Cincinnati, Ohio) was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds Thursday in the annual Major League Baseball Draft.

The recent Miami graduate was chosen by the Reds in the 38th round and was the 1,139th overall pick. Nurre was drafted for the second straight year, after being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2008 draft.

Nurre had an impressive senior campaign in which he batted a team-leading .406, with 17 home runs and 54 RBI, all career highs. He also had 18 doubles, a triple, and 16 stolen bases while leading the team in nearly every offensive category.

Nurre finished his four-year career with a .374 batting average, good for second all-time in the Miami record book. The Cincinnati native finished with 29 home runs, 110 RBI, 40 doubles, 301 total bases, a .460 on-base percentage and a career slugging percentage of .654.
