Junior shortstop Jordan Petraitis was the second Miami University baseball player to be selected in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft as he was selected with the 1,241 pick in the 41st round by the Chicago Cubs. Petraitis and junior Tommy Nurre were the two Miami baseball players drafted in the 2008 draft, giving the RedHawks 25 draft picks in the past nine seasons.

A two-time All-MAC performer and a Second-Team All-MAC performer in 2008, Petraitis had one of his finest seasons in a RedHawk uniform. The RedHawk shortstop started all 54 games last season and posted a batting average of .352, which ranked 12th among MAC batting leaders. Petraitis also ranked seventh in overall games in triples and on-base percentage, eighth in doubles and ninth in total bases, while ranking first in conference-only games in triples and third in on-base percentage. From April 19 - May 16, Petraitis put together a 16-game hitting streak, the longest of any RedHawk player this season, and also led all Miami players with 11 multi-RBI games, including six three-RBI games. With 19 doubles this season, Petraitis moved into third place on the Miami single-season record books for doubles. Those 19 doubles give Petraitis 40 for his career, ranking ninth on the career doubles list at Miami.
