CLEVELAND -
Miami University freshman Mac Thoreson has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The weekly honor is the first of Thoreson’s career, with this week’s awards being the final weekly awards of the season.
Thoreson (Knoxville, Tenn.) tossed a three-hit, complete game in Thursday's (May 20) series opener with Ohio, leading Miami to an 8-1 win. It was his second complete game of the season, also working all nine innings April 18 at Western Michigan, and the only two by a RedHawk this season. The freshman was perfect through the first 4.2 innings and faced just four batters over the minimum all game.
The lone run allowed came on a solo home run while no other Bobcat reached second base, as Thoreson gave up just two singles and hit a batter all in different innings after the round-tripper. The right-hander struck out a career-high eight batters while not issuing a single walk, with five of his eight punch-outs coming against Ohio's top two hitters. The Bobcats hit just .100 against Thoreson while he finished the game in exactly 100 pitches.
Thoreson will lead sixth-seeded Miami into the MAC Tournament Wednesday, as he will get the nod on the hill against No. 3 Toledo in the opening round. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m. ET at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
