REDHAWKS HOST INDIANA STATE BEFORE TRAVELING TO XAVIER: The RedHawks return home for a Tuesday, April 22, contest againt Indiana State, before traveling down to Xavier to play the Musketeers on Wednesday, April 23. Tuesday's game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at McKie Field at Hayden Park, while Wednesday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hayden Field in Cincinnati.
ABOUT THE SYCAMORES: Indiana State owns an 11-23 overall record and a 5-7 Missouri Valley Conference record heading into Tuesday's game. Chris Schmidt leads the team with a .354 batting average, but Brady Shoemaker has been the Sycamore's most dangerous hitter this season. Shoemaker has a team-high 12 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 47 RBIs. Indiana State has won three consecutive decisions over Miami.
ABOUT THE MUSKETEERS: Miami defeated Xavier by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday, April 16, but the Musketeers took two of three games from St. Joe's over the weekend to improve to 10-5 in Atlantic 10 action and 16-20 overall. Zac Richard owns a team-best .352 batting average, five home runs and 36 RBIs.
ERWOOD HAS CAREER GAME: Senior Matt Erwood put together a career performance against Buffalo on Friday, April 18. The southpaw pitched a career-high 7 2/3 innings and struck out a career-best 10 batters. Erwood became the first pitcher since John Ely on April 29, 2007 to strike out 10 or more batters in a game. In his last two outings, Erwood has a 1.93 ERA, 15 strikeouts and no walks.
HITTING THE BOOKS: Junior Jordan Petraitis has been a staple in the Miami lineup since he stepped on campus three years ago and he is approaching the Miami career record books. Petraitis needs one triple, three doubles and 21 hits to move into Miami's Top 10 lists on those respective charts.
MAC-NIFICIENT FRESHMAN: Despite struggling on the mound in non-conference action, freshman Samuel Dawes has been Miami's top pitcher out of the bullpen in Mid-American Conference play. In eight appearances in conference action, the freshman southpaw has given up just four earned runs in 15 2/3 innings. In MAC-only contests, Dawes ranks fourth in the conference in ERA (2.30), tied for second in appearances (8), fourth in opponent's batting average (.210) and fourth in strikeouts per game (8.62 SO/G).
CIRCLING THE BASES: Before Sunday, April 6, junior Chris Nadeau was known as one of Miami's top hitters, but the Saline, Mich. native had not hit a home run in his Miami career. Against Western Michigan on April, 6, Nadeau blasted his first home run of his Miami career and he has been swinging a hot bat ever since. Over the past 11 games, Nadeau is hitting .326, with two doubles, 10 RBIs and he boasts a slugging percentage of .565. As he hit his first home run three seasons into his Miami career, it only took him only three days to hit the second home run of his career as he hit a towering home run down the right field line in Miami's 11-4 win over Indiana on Wednesday, April 9. With a home run against Xavier on April 16, Nadeau has three home runs this season.
AGAINST INDIANA STATE: Six RedHawks players have had six or more at-bats against the Sycamores without much success. Chris Rodriguez's .333 batting average against the Sycamore's is the best average of any current RedHawk.
