OXFORD, Ohio (April 2, 2000) -- Even though the first game of the double-header was delayed one-half hour due to rain, Miami University's baseball team made it worth the wait as the RedHawks scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take Game One 9-8 against the University of Toledo April 1 at Stanley G. McKie Field. Miami swept the double-header with a 9-0 victory in the nightcap, pushing its record to 19-7 overall and 4-0 in Mid-American Conference play.

After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, the RedHawks plated three runs of their own in the bottom half of the same frame. Tom Yost (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) connected for a one-out double to left field and scored one batter later on a throwing error by the second baseman. Joe Spain (Warren, Ohio/Howland) then smashed his second home run of the year to right field, knotting the score at 3-3.

The Rockets (8-13, 0-4) took an 8-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. However, Miami was not finished. After lead-off pinch hitter Andi Scheidt (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) singled to center field and Zach Schmidt (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) and Bobby Barnes (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) walked, Brady Nori (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) hit a two-run single to cut the lead in half. Clark Mace (London, Ohio/Madison Plains) then singled to left field scoring Barnes.

With Nori and Mace on first and second, respectively, John Lackaff (Downers Grove, Ill./North) attempted a sacrifice bunt, which third baseman Jason Stuecher threw wide of first base allowing both Nori and Mace to score the winning runs.

Mace finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run, while Yost tallied two hits and one run. Relief pitcher Chris Leonard (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis De Sales) earned the win for Miami working one and two-thirds innings, giving up two hits and two runs, one of which was unearned.

Tony Miller and Mario Wallace notched three hits apiece for Toledo. Joel Mohler took the loss on the mound.

In the second game, the RedHawks took control early, scoring two runs in the first inning a fielder's choice by Mace and a RBI-single by Lackaff. Miami broke the game open in the fourth inning, tallying four runs, including a lead-off home run by Jeremy Ison (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson), his fifth of the year.

Nori, Lackaff, Ison and Spain smacked two hits apiece for Miami. Lackaff hit his team-leading seventh long ball of the year in the fifth inning, while Nori extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

Freshman Adam Keel (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) worked a gem on the mound, picking up his fourth victory of the year. Keel (4-0) pitched a complete game, surrendering only three hits, striking out six batters and not walking one.

The RedHawks are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
