CINCINNATI, Ohio (March 27) -- Led by senior Tom Yost's (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) career-best 6-for-6 effort, Miami University's baseball team routed Xavier University 16-4 Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Field. Yost added a double, three RBI and two runs to lead a RedHawk offense that pounded a season-high 20 hits.

Fittingly, it was Yost who opened the scoring for Miami (11-9). The designated hitter singled to right field in the second inning to score Jeremy Ison (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson), giving the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage. Miami went on to plate five more runs, including a three-run blast from Zach Schmidt (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas), to take a 6-0 lead into the third.

Yost had two more hits, a run and an RBI in the fourth and fifth innings as Miami added three more runs to up its advantage to 9-0.

Xavier (7-18) posted four runs in the fifth, cutting its deficit to 9-4, but the RedHawk bullpen allowed no Musketeer hits over the final three innings to end the threat. Miami's offense added four runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to ice the victory.

Miami starter Matt Allen (Carmel, Calif./Carmel/Cuesta C.C.) retired 13 of the last 14 Xavier batters he faced to pick up his first win of the season.

With his outburst today, Yost is now 9-for-10 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored in his last two games. Other Miami offensive stars included Jason Knoedler (Springfield, Ill./Springfield/Lincoln Land C.C.) (3-for-5, two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored), Luke Reinhart (Downers Grove, Ill./Montini Catholic) (2-for-3, double, triple, three RBI) and Andi Scheidt (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) (3-for-4, two runs, two RBI).

Miami will ride its first four-game winning streak of the season into Wednesday’s tilt with Butler. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
