OXFORD, Ohio (March 26)--Miami University's baseball team split its double-header with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sunday at Stanley G. McKie Field. The RedHawks (14-7) won the opening game 8-2 and lost the second, 7-1, which snapped their five-game winning streak.

In the first game, Miami gained control of the contest with four runs in the bottom of the second. Junior John Lackaff (Downers Grove, Ill./North), who is leading the Red and White in batting average (.405), started the inning with a single. Lackaff would score on the next play as junior Tom Yost (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) singled to right field. Two batters later, freshman Zach Schmidt (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) doubled home juniors Luke Reinhart (Downers Grove, Ill./Montini Catholic) and Jeremy Ison (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson).

Schmidt went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and one run scored. Lackaff continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with one run scored. Eight of Miami's nine starters recorded a hit in the game.

Junior Nate Tekavec (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) notched his fourth win of the year, working six innings and giving up four hits and two runs. Tekavec (4-2) struck out four batters and walked four.

Darin Haugom tallied two hits for the Panthers and Corey Clemmons was handed the loss on the mound.

In the second game, the RedHawks opened the scoring in the second inning as Lackaff started the inning with a single, while Yost followed up with a single of his own. After Ison bunted the runners over, senior Joe Spain (Warren, Ohio/Howland) hit a sacrifice fly to score Lackaff, which proved to be the only run Miami would plate in the game.

UWM rallied with seven runs in the next four innings to earn the double-header split. Eric Goerdt had two hits to lead the Panthers, while seven other UWM batters reached safely on hits.

Sophomore Russ Bayer (Naperville, Ill./North) suffered the loss for Miami. Bayer (4-1) pitched four and two-third innings, giving up six hits and five runs.

Quintin Oldenburg notched the win for the Panthers (6-12).

Miami's next game is Tuesday, March 28 at Xavier University. Game time is 3 p.m.
