DAYTON, Ohio (March 20) -- Errors on three consecutive plays in the bottom of the eighth inning helped turn a 4-0 Miami University advantage into a one-run University of Dayton lead, which the RedHawks were not able to over come in the ninth, in their 5-4 loss to the Flyers Tuesday afternoon at Stuart Field. Miami's last five losses have come in its opponents' last at-bat.

The RedHawks took the lead in the second, thanks to Justin Knoedler’s (Springfield, Ill./Springfield/Lincoln Land C.C.) second solo home run in as many games. The blast was Knoedler’s third of the year.

Clark Mace (London, Ohio/Madison Plains) gave Miami a 2-0 lead in the fifth, driving in Jason Knoedler (Springfield, Ill./Springfield/Lincoln Land C.C.) from third.

Miami added two more runs on three hits in the seventh to gain a 4-0 advantage. Mace collected his second RBI of the afternoon and Jason Knoedler scored on a balk to account for the Red and White's runs.

Starting pitcher Billy Kieninger (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia) cruised into the eighth, having given up no runs on five hits. However, the RedHawk defense committed errors on three consecutive plays, allowing the Flyers to put their first two runs on the board with two runners on base and no outs. Shawn Bolinger followed with a three-run home run to left center to give Dayton (6-10) a 5-4 lead.

Kieninger took the loss for Miami (7-9), lowering his record to 1-2, despite striking out six and walking none. Offensively, Mace led the RedHawks, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Miami returns home for the first time in almost a month Wednesday versus Xavier. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Stanley G. McKie Field.
