FRESNO, Calif. (March 17) - Sparked by the play of Justin and Jason Knoedler, Miami University's baseball team (7-8) dumped Bucknell (7-6), 14-2, at the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic in Fresno, Calif. With the victory, Miami captured fifth place in the eight-team tournament.
Both Knoedler twins unleashed one-run home runs in the fourth inning to give Miami a 5-0 advantage. Justin also belted two doubles and went 4-for-5 from the plate, scored three runs and collected five RBI. Jason was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. The twins combined for seven of Miami's 12 RBI, six of the RedHawks' 11 hits and scored five of 14 Miami runs.
Mark Floersch picked up his second win of the week and season on the mound for the Red and White, keeping his record unblemished at 2-0. Facing 23 batters in six innings, Floersch gave up just four hits, one run and one walk, while striking out seven.
After a scoreless first inning, the RedHawks opened up a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Just two innings later, the Knoedler's launched home runs to up the lead to 5-0. In the fifth inning, Miami amassed eight runs off three hits and three errors to take a 13-0 lead. The Bison collected runs in the sixth and seventh inning, but Miami capped off the scoring in the top of the ninth to make the final tally 14-2 in favor of the 'Hawks.
Miami returns to the Midwest after a 4-4 stint in Fresno to visit the University of Dayton Tuesday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
