CLEVELAND -
Miami University junior catcher Adam Weisenburger has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The award is his first career MAC weekly honor and the second won by a RedHawk this season, as junior Adam Eaton garnered the same recognition on Feb. 22 after opening weekend.
Weisenburger had a stellar four games in Florida during Miami’s spring break trip, helping the RedHawks go 4-0. He started all four games at catcher while batting .727 (8-of-11) with five extra-base hits. The Plymouth, Minn., native had a pair of multi-RBI and multi-hit games on the week, including a 4-for-5 performance against Indiana Saturday, when he also scored four runs and drove in three while coming a triple shy of the cycle. The four hits tied a career high while the four runs scored marked a career best.
For the week, Weisenburger belted a pair of home runs, giving him three on the year, and smacked a trio of doubles to help him to a 1.545 slugging percentage. The 2010 co-captain finished the week with 10 runs scored and seven RBI with 17 total bases. He earned six walks and did not strike out once to give him a .737 on-base percentage for the week. The junior added a pair of sac flies during the four games and made 28 putouts without an error.
The RedHawks (6-7) look to continue their four-game winning streak Wednesday when they host Northern Kentucky at 3 p.m. at McKie Field at Hayden Park for their 2010 home opener.
