BOCA RATON, Fla. (Mar. 15) -- Miami University's baseball team earned
one of its biggest wins in recent memory on March 15, shutting down No.
25 Florida Atlantic 5-1.
Miami surged out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when
Brady Nori powered a shot over the right field fence that scored Bobby
Barnes. Inspired by the stellar performance of Nate Tekavec on the mound,
the RedHawks protected their lead into the eighth inning when Clark Mace
smacked a two RBI triple that scored Barnes and Zach Schmidt. The hit by
Mace extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
Tekavec went the distance on the mound for the RedHawks, allowing six hits
and one unearned run while hurling 10 strikeouts. The win, which moved
Tekavec to 2-2, was the fourth in a row for Miami (7-5), which has yet to
lose during its Florida trip.
Greg Eubanks took the loss for Florida Atlantic (18-6), which had won nine
consecutive games entering the contest.
Miami finishes up the collegiate part of its Florida trip Thursday when it takes on Rutgers at noon and Iona at 3 p.m.
