BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 14, 2000) - Miami University's baseball team extended its current winning streak to a season-long three games Tuesday evening, shutting out the University of Hartford 9-0.
Miami, which enjoyed a season-high 10 stolen bases, was led at the plate by five batters tallying multiple hits. Clark Mace (London, Ohio) extended his hitting streak to 15 games by batting 2-of-5 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Also making strong contributions were John Lackaff (Downers Grove, Ill.) and Luke Reinhart (Downers Grove, Ill.) who compiled two hits and two stolen bases each with Reinhart hammering two doubles. Bobby Barnes (Sarasota, Fla.) and Jeremy Ison (Hudson, Ohio) rounded out Miami's offensive attack with Barnes going 2-for-5 with a triple and Ison hitting 2-of-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Russ Bayer (Naperville, Ill.) picked up his third consecutive win on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing only three hits and striking out five. Rusty Ventresca (Westerville, Ohio) split the shutout with Bayer, spreading three hits through three innings of work. The loss was the first of the season for Hartford (3-1).
The RedHawks (6-5) pursue their fourth in a row Wednesday night when they challenge perennial powerhouse Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m.
