WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -
Weather has forced the Miami University baseball team to rearrange its schedule Saturday, as the RedHawks' game against North Dakota State, scheduled for 10 a.m. ET at Chain of Lakes Stadium, has been cancelled due to unplayable field conditions after heavy rains doused Florida over the last two days. The game, which was to be Miami's final game of the RussMatt Invitational during their spring break trip, will not be made up.
The RedHawks (5-7) instead will now play Indiana at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday in Gainesville, Fla. at Gainesville High School, head coach Dan Simonds has announced. Miami will also face the Hoosiers, who are coached by former RedHawk head coach Tracy Smith, on April 20 in Oxford as originally scheduled.
Miami has now had its last three games cancelled due to rain, as Friday's game with Sacred Heart was rained out and the 'Hawks also had Thursday's second game of a doubleheader against Fairfield rained out because of torrential rains. The first game of the twin bill against Rhode Island was shortened to six innings because of the weather, as well, but Miami was ahead 4-3 when the game was called, giving them the win--its third straight victory (all in Florida).
Following Saturday's game with Indiana, the RedHawks return home from Florida and are scheduled to hold their home opener Wednesday, March 17 vs. Northern Kentucky at 3 p.m. at McKie Field at Hayden Park.
