Jeremy Ison Goes 4-for-6 with two HRs
OXFORD, OHIO (March 8) -- Miami University's baseball team broke out a recent scoring
slump and dominated the University of Dayton Wednesday, 20-9, at Stanley G.
McKie Field. The RedHawks (3-3), who snapped their three-game losing skid,
had 12 players record a hit, including five home runs. The 20 runs was the
most the Red and White scored since beating Indiana 29-6 on April 1, 1998.
Junior shortstop Jeremy Ison (Hudson, Ohio) (pictured) broke out of a 3-for-19 slump
by going 4-for-6, including two round-trippers, with a career-high six RBIs
and three runs scored. His first home run came in the third inning, a
two-run shot over the left field fence. Ison's second homer, a solo shot,
came in the Hawks seven-run seventh inning.
Second baseman John Lackaff (Downers Grove, Ill./North) raised his
average to .474 following a 3-for-5 afternoon. He also connected for two
HRs, including the second half of back-to-back home runs in the seventh
inning with Ison's dinger.
Junior Tom Yost (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) and sophomore George
Stegmiller (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) each added three hits
apiece for the RedHawks. Yost hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and
Stegmiller tallied an RBI-single in the seventh inning. Juniors Clark Mace
(London, Ohio/Madison Plains) and Brady Nori (Middletown, Ohio) recorded
two hits apiece. Mace scored four times and added an RBI-double in the
fourth inning.
Sophomore Russ Bayer (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) picked up the
victory for Miami. Bayer (2-0) worked five and two-thirds innings, giving
up five runs on 11 hits and striking out three Flyer batters.
Shawn Bolinger hit a two-run round-tripper for Dayton and went 3-for-4,
while Mark Schulte registered three hits in five at-bats. Kasey Rosendahl
(0-2) took the loss, surrendering seven runs, six hits and two walks in one
inning.
Miami next takes to the field this weekend for a three-game series at the
University of Louisville. Dayton (3-5) dropped its' fifth consecutive game
and next travels to the University of Cincinnati on Thursday.
